First trip of the Season! Prince Rupert

Well the weather was calling for storm force Southeast winds, but John, Lenord and Jane rode the train all the way from Prince George and McBride to fish Prince Rupert, and were quite determined not to let the weather get them down.  Luckily the winds made a favourable change and on April 30 we managed to head offshore for some Halibut fishing. After picking up our limit of flatties we jigged a few more bottomfish and came in to check the crab traps.  We were rewarded with some huge Dungeness and they looked so good we had to boil a few of them up on the spot to try them out as fresh as they get!

A good scrap and it will be a great couple of meals!

After waiting out the 45 knot southeast on the first of May we headed out on the second, this time to target the early runs of Chinook salmon that are making their way through the Prince Rupert area. After a short run out of the harbour we set our lines and it wasn’t long before Lenord was tussling with a nice early season Chinook that fell victim to a bare cut plug at just 25 feet deep!  After landing Lenord’s fish and getting it bled and cooling on ice, John mentioned that it looked lonely in the cooler and needed some company. We all agreed and after a few hours we had added a few friends to the pile, and finished the day with a nice little chicken halibut, and more juicy Dungeness crabs.

It was a great trip to start the season and I thank John, Lenord and Jane for making their way out to see what Prince Rupert fishing is all about.

There seem to be more chinooks showing up each week and so far this season is shaping up to be a great one! We still have some June dates available, and the odd available day through July and August, but they are going fast, so if you are looking for a saltwater fishing trip this year give us a call before it’s too late!

  1. Well its official. We are booked to fish with Dave again this year. After experiencing Prince Rupert for the first time last year, the experience could have not been better delivered. Dave and the Sunset Charters have proven they know where the fish are, and have done an amazing job looking after everyone on the boat. The over night stay was amazing and being up at 6am and fishing again was amazing.

This trip last year was so much fun we booked two for two nights this year. The cost weighed against the experience is beyond compare.

I am bringing 3 new people this year who are all very excited for this experience. The web page was a great motovation piece.

We look forward to seeing you in August.
